El cinquè pas és:
Si en els passos previs s'ha trencat una limitació, cal tornar al primer pas, sense permetre que la inèrcia provoqui una limitació del sistema.
Si elevem la limitació, si afegim més recursos o coses dels que no en teníem prou, arribarà un moment en que ja en tindrem suficient. S'ha trencat la limitació. Per tant, s'incrementarà el rendiment del sistema, però serà infinit? Evidentment no. El rendiment del sistema estarà restringit per una altra cosa. La limitació ha canviat de lloc. Com que la limitació que teníem impacta en totes les altres àrees de l'organització, han sorgit moltes regles per sobordinar la resta al seu rendiment. En aquest cinquè pas, hem de revisar aquestes regles que es poden convertir en limitacions "polítiques".

Si elevamos la limitación, si añadimos mas recursos o cosas de los que no teníamos bastante, llegará un momento en que ya tendremos suficiente. Se ha roto la limitación. Por tanto, se incrementará el rendimiento del sistema, pero ¿será infinito? Evidentemente no. El rendimiento del sistema estará restringido por otra cosa. La limitación ha cambiado de sitio. Como que la limitación que teníamos impacta en todas las otras áreas de la organización, han surgido muchas reglas para subordinar el resto a su rendimiento. En este quinto paso, hemos de revisar estas reglas que se pueden convertir en limitaciones "políticas".

The fifth step is:
If, in the previous steps, a constraint has been broken, go back to step one, but do not allow inertia to cause a system's constraint.
